Award-winning Musona grateful to Chiefs

knowledge_musonaJOHANNESBURG - Award-winning Kaizer Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona (Pictured) this week dedicated his awards to his club, saying teammates played a significant role in him winning a double.

Musona was one of the biggest winners in this past weekends Absa Premiership Awards held in Johannesburg. In absentia, he was crowned the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot winner after finishing the season with the highest number of goals. He also bagged the Telkom Knockout Player of the Tournament award following an impressive run in the competition earlier this year. He emerged R225 000 richer for his efforts.
I did previously mention that it was a wonderful season for me, especially given that it was my first full season and winning the top scorer award and the Telkom Knockout was a great achievement for the entire team, he said from his base in Harare, where he is part of the team that is preparing for an African Nations Cup qualifier against Mali.
Winning this prizes in addition makes what was a fantastic victory in the Telkom Knockout Cup all the sweeter. The Zimbabwean international scored two goals during Chiefs run to the Knockout victory. He first found the back of the net when he scored The Amakhosis second goal during their 2 0 quarterfinal win over Free State Stars and in addition he made the most of a goalkeeping error to grab a solo goal in the 1-0 semi-final win over Santos.
As a team we played well throughout the Telkom Knockout Cup, and we enjoyed winning the cup. Every game took a great team effort and this award is for the entire team. Overall, Musona, a 20-year-old product of the famous Black Aces Academy had a season of mixed fortunes. He started the campaign on fire scoring for fun but injury and loss of form struck as Chiefs eventually finished third. He is the fourth Zimbabwean after Wilfred Mugeyi, Gilbert Mushangazhike and Benjani Mwaruwari to finish the season as the leading scorer.
