Flower revels in unlikely victory

andy_flower_threeJOHANNESBURG - England coach, Andy Flower (Pictured), is still revelling in England s unlikely victory over Pakistan and believes his players are in the right frame of mind ahead of the final Test match against Sri Lanka .

The Zimbabwean-born coach saw his side romp to an astounding win in Cardiff where it seemed rain, which washed out play before lunch on the last day, would condemn the contest to a draw. But England defied the elements to score a victory of an innings and 14 runs, a result that impressed Flower.
We thought there was just a three or four percent chance of us winning if we took a few early wickets with the new ball,” Flower said in statement after the match. It was definitely the way to go, rather than let the game peter out to a boring draw. Usually when we are talking in those terms it is when we have our backs to the wall. Here we were slightly ahead and only had a very slim chance of getting in a position for a victory. But our guys still believed they could, and then they were good enough to deliver.
Fast bowler Chris Tremlett led the attack with four wickets in the absence of the injured James Anderson. England called up uncapped Surrey seamer Jade Dernbach into their squad as cover for Anderson last Tuesday. Meanwhile, Flower last week jumped to the defence of his under-fire batsmen, Kevin Petersen.
Flower, himself a world-class batsman while representing Zimbabwe, was confident it was just a matter of time before Petersen was in the runs again. I think he’s on the verge of being a very heavy scorer again. I love the way he’s training and I know when he transfers that to the middle he’s going to be a very heavy scorer. I envisage him having a great summer for England, he said.
