IAAF awards Dube CECS accolade

The International Athletics Association Federation has given Adele Dube, a Kwekwe-based athletics, coach the prestigious Coach Education Certification Services (CECS) award.

Dube, who got the CECS in Nairobi, Kenya after a 10 day course, becomes the second Zimbabwean to get such recognition, after Tendai Tagara of Mutare.

The course included coaching skills for Jumping and Throwing events, Conditioning tests, Sprint and Relays, Hammer and Discus.

Receiving the CECS means Dube will be tasked by IAAF to conduct training couses in SADC countries for athletics coaches of junior teams between the ages of 13-15.

National Association of Athletics of Zimbabwe president Joseph Mungwari told The Zimbabwean that the recognition of Dube was a major achievement for the country.

“We hope that Dube will be of great assistance in the development of Athletics in Zimbabwe, particularly in the schools programme where he has shown a great passion,” Mungwari said.

Dube carved fame for himself when he was a teacher at Svibe High School in Nembudziya Gokwe where he identified athletics talent among pupils and used his personal resources to train and uplift them.

Zimbabwe’s best 800m juniors representative, Monica Goremusandu, is a product of Dube’s talent identification programme.

Goremusandu represented Zimbabwe in Canada last year and is expected to lead the country’s team in the forthcoming All Africa Games scheduled for Maputo.
