Mozambicans register to vote in Zim

More than 100 Mozambique nationals have been registered here as Zimbabwean voters during the past week, says MDC-T legislator for Nyanga North Douglas Mwonzora.

“We have discovered that Zanu (PF) officials are going into neighbouring countries and coaxing people to register as Zimbabwean voters. We established this has happened in Nyakomva and Nyamaropa where almost 100 people have been registered so far. We are compiling a detailed report which we will submit to JOMIC and the Registrar General’s office before taking the issue to the High Court,” he said.

“Zanu (PF) officials there are crossing the Gairezi River and asking villagers in Mozambique to register – promising them fertilizer and other farming inputs as a reward for voting as Zimbabweans,” Mwonzora added.

Last week he made an official complaint to JOMIC, asking it to investigate allegations of vote buying and election rigging plans by Zanu (PF) in Nyanga

To curb election rigging the Global Political Agreement, which formed the country’s coalition government, emphasises the need for electoral reforms. But Zanu (PF) continues to resist these reforms.

The MDC has vowed to boycott any future polls which are held without the full implementation of the GPA.
