De Jonge finished joint 64th with Gonzalo Fdez-Castano, David Hearn, and Andrew Svoboda, after he hit rounds of 70, 69, 66, and 73 for a total score of 280 after he had been lying joint eighth on the third day.
The 73 over par on the final round was the final stroke to De Jonge’s heavy slip as there were too many ties in between the placings, forcing the Zimbabwean way behind the order.
Cabrera was two strokes better than second placed George McNeil as he was on 16 under par 264. McNeil was also heavily rewarded as he took home $702 000 out of the sponsorship package of $6 500 000 after finishing on 14 under par 266.
Some of the big names like Vijay Singh, Ben Curtis and Rory Sabatini missed the cut at the Greenbrier Classic while the likes of Bubba Watson was on 16th, Davis Love 111 on 35th and Trevor Immelman on 57th.
Last week, De Jonge finished 36th at the Quicken Loan championships. Ironically, he had worse scores of 71, 68, 71, and 73 for a total of 283 but finished in a better position.
De Jonge whose ranking is far above the top 60 has to improve in his performance if he is to achieve his dream of finishing in the top 50 in the world.
