More prayers are needed and I see the Almighty God is about to answer our prayers . We are just like children of Israel ‘40 years in the wilderness’ . When we reach that number of years I foersee light.Let’s keep on Hoping everything is being sorted by our Heavenly Father. Zimbabwe is a blessed nation. – Everisto Marikopo
6 months? I don’t know. I was home 6 months ago and believe the deterioration of socio-economic health of that land of my fathers I witnessed was too far down that resusitation will certainly need more than six months. I believe when my homeboy, Majoni, says “6 months” he means it in a metaphorical hue or exageration for the purpose of emphasis. The damage is horendously huge but that is not to say all hope is lost.
I do believe a turn around is possible given the resoursefullness (utsanzu), passion and the willingness to work hard that Zimbabweans are capable of and willing to employ on the long road to bring back the Zimbabwe we knew. However, Zimbabweans are also sensible and intelligent and are therefore unlikely to be persuaded to put their shoulder to the wagon wheel if the investment environment is as turbulent and unpredictable as it is at the moment.
Dare I say the majority of adult Zimbabweans in diaspora would rather be home and are willing to sacrifice the comforts and opportunities they have in foreign lands and come back home to help rebuild the country. However the longer they are in diaspora, the longer their roots sink and the lesser the chances there are for them to be willing to uproot their lives and repartriate back to Zimbabwe.
That is not to say those within cannot do the job but again, dare I say, and stand corrected, those in diaspora will probably have more disposable liquidity for instant investment for a quicker economic turn around. I couldn’t agree more with Majoni, that it is the politics! The toxic political environment void of appropriate and attractive policies is the key detractor. We must remember that Zimbabwe needs the world more than world needs us.
Investment that was favourable Zimbabwe’s in the recent past is diverting to other countries in the neighbourhood with each day that passes; we are being left behind and the world does not care if we haven’t notice!. Changing the faces in government is not enough, either. We need to change the political culture so that we can embrace a culture tolerant to criticism and be willing to face the truth frightening and threatening to the status core as it may be.
We must realise sooner thatn later that we are in the middle of a swamp infested with crocodiles that no credible investor, indegenous or foreign is willing to risk a swim in when there is safer dry land elsewhere. Even then, it is not enough to shoot the crocodiles in the swamp to convince the invester that their investments are safe and will pay off. We need to drain the swamp and start afresh on drier land, if it makes sense. – Samuel Pachawo Dhlamini
