The President must come clean on his role in the massacre of thousands of people during the Gukurahundi era. The President’s reckless responce to people’s demand for healing and justice is worrying and shocking. ED stated that ‘we should let by gones be by gones’. The President cannot force people to forgive and forget but should allow people to heal through a genuine national healing and reconciliation process. A process that allows truth telling, justice and reparations to take place.
As Tajamuka, we demand the immediate and unconditional release of the 08 brave activists who were arrested for exercising their democratic right of protesting, a right guaranteed and enshrined in the constitution.
As TJK, we also want to remind the army to stay in the barracks! This is not a military state. The army has no right meddling in civilian business. To the President, we demand closure to the Gukurahundi issue whose effects dont only affect the Matebeleland and Midlands people but the whole country. We demand that the President deal with this emotive issue as a matter of urgency. As its effects continue to be passed from one generation to another. No to any form of violence in our lifetime.
Meanwhile, Youth lets get ready for the voter registration mop up exercise. And remember the election is this year lets vote ZanuPF out!
