Mnangagwa calls for calm in Zimbabwe

JOHANNESBURG - Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa is appealing for calm amid violent protests in Harare.

His government’s fuel price increases triggered widespread protests.

Six people have been killed and many others were injured.

He says resolving the country’s economic challenges is paramount, and he understands the anger displayed by citizens.

Mnangagwa was in Russia when the protests erupted across the country.

He says a series of economic agreements with Moscow will boost Zimbabwe’s economy.
