Warnings of a humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe

JOHANNESBURG - There are warnings of a regional humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe.

One NGO is calling on South Africa to publicly condemn the Zimbabwean government for the violence there.

At least 12 people died when the military clamped down on protests over hefty fuel price increases.

NGOs now want Southern African Development Community and the African Union to facilitate a national dialogue, something President Emmerson Mnangagwa is reportedly calling for.

Mnangagwa is saying the protests were violent and led to the destruction and looting of public property – and while he’s promising to hold rogue military and police accountable, there have been some doubts about whether this will happen.
