Mwadzura wins Zim Afristeel Blitz chess tournament

Zim Afristeel hosted the second edition of the Blitz chess tournament which was three minutes plus two seconds increment.

Roy Mwadzura who is slowly becoming one of the best chess players in blitz underlined his superiority when he won seven games and drew two games to finish with a remarkable 8/9 points in this tournament. He won against the current National Champion Emerald Mushore, Adolf Muungani, Hillary Chidziva, Maikokera Walter, Elisha Thabo, Ian Mashumba and WCM Christine Makwena to cap a fine performance in a pulsating chess tournament which attracted players who usually play virtually but had to show their skills on the physical board with the real chess pieces.

His draws were against Cyril Chigodo the Officer with the Zimbabwe Correctional Services and Mugove Muririma another officer with the Zimbabwe Republic Police. The two are among the best players in their areas of speciality. Roy Mwadzura won $75.00 for his efforts. Emerald Mushore came second in this tourney with 6.5 points out of the nine games played winning $50.00 cash. Cyril Chigodo and Mugove Muririma were third and fourth respectively with 6.5 points as well as winning $30.00 and $20.00 respectively. These were separated by tie-breaks used by the Tournament Director and the Arbiter for the tournament.

In fifth place was Elisha Thabo who finished with 5.5 points out of 9 games of play.

Woman Candidate Master Christine Makwena managed to beat the following players: Hillary Chidziva, Ishmael Sibanda, Vitalis Mapuranga, Praise Manyonga and drew against Lwazi Nyoni to finish with 4.5 points out of 9 games of play. For being the best lady she won herself $30.00 while the second best lady was WCM Kudzanai Charinda who won $20.00 followed by Tatenda Zengeni who was the third best lady who won $10.00.

Every player got a drink and a muffin while playing from the Sponsors.
