Among the appointees is ZANU PF Central Committee member Kudakwashe Tagwirei.

The other nine are Jabulani Sibanda, Godwills Masimirembwa, Mary Mliswa, Nokuthula Matsikenyere (pictured), Lucy Chitaga, retired General Gibson Mashingaidze, Makosini Hlongwane, Brilliant Dube and Irene Mutumba.

The appointments were announced in Parliament on Tuesday by National Assembly Speaker Jacob Mudenda.

Mudenda said the President had consulted the National Assembly before making the appointments.

“After consultation with the National Assembly, I have to inform the House that His Excellency, the President, is desirous of appointing the following as senators,” Mudenda said, before reading out the 10 names.

The appointments follow constitutional changes introduced through CAA3, which provides for additional senators to be appointed directly by the President.
