The system is also expected to be deployed from the semi-final stage of the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup.
The rollout began with a two-day VAR kick-off meeting that brought together experts from FIFA and CAF, alongside ZIFA, the Premier Soccer League, stadium owners, referees and other football stakeholders.
It will be followed by a FIFA-led training programme running from 25 October to 16 November. FIFA will provide technical expertise throughout, with local officials and other key personnel trained to operate the system.
CAF Referees Manager Felix Tangawarima said FIFA will certify officials once they have met the required standards.
ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi said the move was about more than adopting new technology.
“We are happy to do this. It is not just about ticking boxes, but we are bringing sanity to the local game,” Magwizi said.
“We have seen referees being suspended because of decisions not consistent with their training, but not because they are bad. Our officials need to be capacitated and supported to grow the game.”
