Traffic restricted on Harare-Chirundu Road for ZANU PF conference

Police in Mashonaland West Province have ordered haulage trucks to avoid the Harare-Chirundu Road between Chinhoyi and Harare from today, Tuesday 13 October 2026.

Traffic restricted on Harare-Chirundu Road for ZANU PF conference

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the restriction applies to trucks travelling in both directions – from Chinhoyi to Harare and from Harare to Chinhoyi.

Drivers have been advised to use the Chinhoyi-Chegutu Road instead, and those proceeding to Harare will then join the Robert Mugabe Highway, which links with the Harare-Bulawayo Road at Norton.

The ZRP said the inconvenience was necessary to facilitate smooth traffic flow during the ongoing ZANU PF conference at the Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT).

“ZRP Mashonaland West Province advises those in the transport industry, particularly haulage trucks, that they are restricted to use the Harare-Chirundu road from Chinhoyi to Harare starting today, Tuesday 13 October 2026,” reads the statement.

“Drivers are urged to proceed via the Chinhoyi-Chegutu road, and those proceeding to Harare will then use the Robert Mugabe Highway linking with the Harare-Bulawayo road at Norton. The same applies to those using the road from Harare to Chinhoyi.

“The inconvenience has been necessary to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic during the ongoing ZANU PF Conference at Chinhoyi University of Technology.

“We appeal to drivers to cooperate with the Police and adhere to all road rules and regulations.”

The 23rd ZANU PF Annual National People’s Conference has also negatively impacted students at CUT.

Hundreds of students have been ordered to vacate both on-campus and off-campus accommodation to make way for delegates.

Those affected include students living at Varsity Heights in Chinhoyi, which will be used to house delegates attending the conference.
